9 MVA submerged arc furnace is a complex electrometallurgical equipment composed of the electric furnace body, furnace transformer, high current conductor (short network), electrode system, submerged arc furnace feeding system, cooling system, high and low voltage power distribution system, monitoring automation system, iron slag system, and smoke and dust removal system.

First of all, as the raw material for reduction smelting of ore and carbon reductant, submerged arc furnace has made outstanding contributions to the production of ferroalloys such as ferrosilicon manganese iron and silicon manganese alloy, and is also an important industrial raw material and calcium carbide in the metallurgical industry.

The submerged arc furnace is widely used in industrial smelting, which can be divided into silicon iron furnaces, manganese iron furnaces, nickel-iron furnaces, calcium carbide furnaces, mineral wool furnaces, etc.

The high voltage electric energy provided by the grid is converted into low voltage and large current through a special transformer in the submerged arc furnace. The current is transmitted to the electrode through a large current conductor. The carbon electrode is input into the furnace. The furnace around the electrode generates electrical adhesion and the electrode end cow arc heat converts the electric energy into heat energy, thus forming a high-temperature reaction zone in the furnace body, and the metal oxide ore recovers the reaction. Usually, carbon-reducing agents such as coke are used, and raw materials of coke and reduced gold oxide ore are continuously added into the furnace. The reaction is resumed in the reaction area. Liquid products are accumulated in the molten pool. The furnace outlet is opened regularly, the metal liquid is poured, alloy products are refined, and slag is quenched with water or used after pouring.

The 9 MVA submerged arc furnace is mainly divided into circular submerged arc furnaces and rectangular submerged arc furnaces. As the submerged arc furnace generates a large amount of furnace gas (i.e. flue gas) in the smelting and production process, the circular submerged arc furnace is divided into the high hood open furnace, semi-closed furnace, and closed furnace, and the furnace body can be fixed and rotated. A rectangular submerged arc furnace is generally a closed structure with a fixed furnace body.

As the smoke hood is hung above the furnace body, the environmental pollution is serious, the energy consumption is high, and it does not conform to the relevant national regulations on labor safety and health, the high smoke hood open furnace has been phased out.

In addition, the submerged arc furnace uses carbon or magnesium refractories as the furnace lining, uses self-training electrodes, and the electrodes are inserted into the furnace for submerged arc operation. To a large extent, the arc energy and current are used to melt metals, feed materials, intermittent iron slag, and continuous industrial furnaces through the furnace resistance.

The common submerged arc furnaces in China are 9 MVA submerged arc furnaces, 6300KVA, 12500KVA, 17500KVA, 25000KVA, 33000KVA, and 40500KVA submerged arc furnaces. The internal structure system of the submerged arc furnace is clear and the working principle is simple. To put it bluntly, it is an industrial electric arc furnace or resistance furnace with large power consumption.
